Here, he shares a story of motivation involving a friend—played by Peter, a BGCD volunteer and Hope co-facilitator—who wanted to get better grades. In order to motivate Peter to work harder and pay attention in class, Vashawn needed to figure out Peter's goals to help guide him.
Vashawn's own motivation in solving conflicts comes from using people in his life as role models: "You think, what would your parents do if they had that problem?"
"You should always listen to somebody else's point of view before you start arguing with them," he shares. When asked if he has advice for other aspiring leaders looking for motivation, Vashawn keeps it simple: "You should always look to someone that you can trust, and look up to them, and see what they would do."
