A group of talented and insightful young teenagers, known as "Achievers" at the innovative and nationally-recognized mentoring organization Friends of the Children - Boston, have been hard at work with us this fall in our pilot module on Conflict Resolution. Guided by Hope Head Facilitator Ezra Greenfield and co-facilitated by Executive Director Kevin Sheehan and FOTC staff members Dieuvil Varice, Ross Gamble and Jesse Doran, the cohort includes a diverse group of youth from some of Boston's most economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. In the first section of the module, Achievers view and respond to conflict in popular media and art, and learn about the basic principles of storytelling. They then create their own art, poetry, and performance on the theme. Achievers share personal stories of conflict and resolution, drawing from lived experiences to role play and test alternative solutions. We are consistently impressed with their dedication, energy, and thoughtful responses to difficult questions! Next, the group will collaborate on an educational video to share their knowledge and skills with others, putting leadership ideals into action to inspire change.
