I am thrilled to let you know that Livingston Taylor--one of America's finest singer-songwriters--has agreed to play a benefit concert for Hope Collaborative.

Livingston will be performing Wednesday, July 12th at 7:00 at the historic Oakley Country Club in Watertown, Massachusetts for you and a select group of Hope's friends, neighbors, donors, and supporters. His hits include I Will Be in Love With You, I'll Come Running, and Boatman—the last two recorded by brother James.

Proceeds from the night will help us grow Hope's network of youth advocacy partners where we provide outstanding leadership development programs to a growing number of kids in low-income neighborhoods everywhere. Hope currently runs programs in Massachusetts, New York, India, Israel, and Sierra Leone with some of the best youth leadership advocates working today. We build our outreach in collaboration with our friends and partners at The Clay Center for Young Healthy Minds at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Our leadership and education program allows kids to redefine and reimagine who they are. Think about the power of youth growing up with purpose, identifying as leaders, and envisioning better futures. Mujadid, a student from Hope’s Malik Academy program, said at graduation: "I will take the lessons of Hope with me for the rest of my life.”

The work transforms and changes lives for good. I’ve seen it first hand. You may have, too, with the Hope Clips of the kids teaching each other how to be leaders.

The upcoming July 12th benefit event will be a wonderful evening of music and friendship. Tickets are $100—or a donation of your choosing—and include music, food, beverages, and a beautiful summer view of Boston. Livingston Taylor is the featured artist. Opening is one of the Boston's finer jazz bands, The Harvey Diamond Trio.

You can buy tickets and join us at:

As Livingston sings in his hit song Boatman:
Hearts were exploding around us
As we drifted south in the bay
The grey up above and the grey down below
Left us with nothing to say.
So we drifted along in the silence
'Til the tickle of life trickled in
And the rhythm began in the hiss of the sand
We were catching fire again.

Watch Kids Make a Video About Becoming a Leader

Kids and teens in the Hope leadership program make a video of their leadership journeys at the end of each semester.

We often find the results surprising, and so have curated here for your enjoyment some of the more exciting moments from Spring 2017.

You will see that some kids who struggle with confidence come to find their voice in the process.

Others who struggle with self esteem sometimes become pretty good teachers as they present on camera.

The goal is for participants to present their leadership stories, so that an audience can connect to their struggles, achievements, and experiences.

We try to capture their process of storytelling--victories, difficulties--warts and all.

It's never dull, you can imagine, when kids and teens produce videos of what it means for them to become a leader.

Hope and the Art of Leadership

Storytelling is a key success factor in becoming an influential leader.

Successful leaders discover and then tell their leadership stories to connect to the hopes and struggles of the people in their communities. Where young leaders activate a shared vision for a better future, they can engage others in a shared leadership journey.

We believe that the best way to tell stories is to free kids up in various artistic media. Some gravitate to drawing--others to poetry, songwriting, storytelling, and videography.

Hope participants pick their favorite medium and bring to life through it the conflicts and stories that drive them in their leadership work.

The end of the semester finds us reflecting on some of the more inspiring pieces of art the young developing leaders in the Hope program have delivered-- photographed here.

We hope that the kids's stories help bring out your leadership stories in a cycle of hope and change!
